Sportive, Sportive

How to keep fit during drupa? – The magic word is “morning sports”. Every morning at six the manroland Executive Board and the Senior Executives are jogging an eight kilometers distance along the Rhine. – A good opportunity to communicate and get ready and organized for the day. Sometimes they meet other manroland sport freaks. This morning for example it was Ricarda Schillinger who was very active. The event and PR lady pedalled hard on her mountainbike.

From drupa Straight Into Retirement

For Hellmuth Pleier, Head of Printing Demonstration and Prepress Sheetfed at manroland, the day after tomorrow here at drupa will be his last working day. It is a smooth transition: during his last day Pleier will be taking care of a part of the dismantling works and will then start his new life as a pensioner. He joined manroland in 1984 as leader of the training measurements for all then existing presses. Two years later he changed for customer consultancy and afterwards worked his way up to leading the Printing Demonstration department. This task was followed by heading prepress and logistics. Pleier was also responsible for small local and international events.

For him this year’s drupa is the 6th.Retirement will be the beginning of a new life period. From now on work will be in the background and other things in the focus. Pleier is a dedicated motorbike rider and very active in local politics.

Product Marketing Puts Printing Presses in the Limelight

Are the printing presses ready for operation? Is the presentation technique alright for take-off? The Product Marketing Sheetfed department puts the sheetfed sector on drupa in the limelight. After each press demonstration Dr Gerald Schobesberger (center) and his team are available to answer questions of customers and everybody who is interested. Moreover they take care of the VAP-Tunnel. This is where manroland focuses on the printing industry’s main trends production efficiency and product value. What does that exactly mean for the interested show visitor? Dr Schobesberger and his team show what printing companies can do to work more economically.

150 Tons of Web Hightech Installed

What would drupa be without our technicians? They set up the presses long before the show starts and install the latest electronics and software. During the show they make sure that everything runs smoothly, explain technical details to customers and visitors and dismantle all exhibits after the end of the show. manroland’s Internal Assembly Web which is headed by Michael Gnädinger, is working a little secluded. Still it delivers the basis on which other departments such as sales and product marketing establish their work here in Düsseldorf.

Altogether the technicians installed 150 tons of steel and the complete electrical system. They consist of a COLORMAN of 70 tons, a folder of 50 tons, and a LITHOMAN of 30 tons. During the show the assembly team changed around 5,000 printing plates on the newspaper printing unit and approximately 2,000 on the LITHOMAN printing unit for demonstration purposes. The team is not going home on 11 June when the show ends, but on 21 June after having finished the dismantling works.
