Sports and Arts at manroland

It was mainly the ladies who were curious and looking very much forward to seeing the Hamburg tornado sailors who came to drupa today. Johannes Polgar (left) and Florian Spalteholz got the qualification for the Olympics in China in Hyères/France. The paintress Heinke Böhnert could be watched doing pictures on wind, water, waves and sails. Then autographed prints were distributed by the tanned sailors and the paintress (right).

Bernhard Radinger on Every drupa Since 1977

A true drupa connoisseur: Bernhard Radinger has been on every drupa since 1977 as manroland photographer. This year’s drupa is his eighth. Since his first time in Düsseldorf many drupas passed by – he joined them all. “Earlier we used to have our own photo laboratory for black-and-white pictures where we developed the photos ourselves,” Radinger recalls. Since 1990 the video camera and then digital photography arrived on the scene of his worklife. Now Radinger is not only taking photos but also doing videos of the show for manroland. “Compared to previous drupas the workload has increased such as drupa itself grew bigger each time,” the photographer says. When asked how he manages to be in a good mood and friendly all the time in spite of his busy schedule he answers with a roguish smile: “My secret recipe is calmness.”

Graphic Department in Good Mood

This is the Photoshop heart of manroland: the graphic department is doing presentations, animations and press photo arrangement here at drupa. Karin Backer (standing) and her team are implementing the manroland rebranding on the show. They are providing the printing press manufacturer with graphic elements that are needed ad hoc such as among others 50 banners, 40 wall graphics, 1,900 name badges, 1,500 charts for Powerpoint presentations and 21 magnetic foils to be fixed on the presses. So far 60 photos have been prepared for publication for the manroland press department. The team is doing a perfect on-demand job reacting quickly and uncomplicatedly. There is never a dull moment in the graphic office: hardly five minutes pass by without a new order or a phone call. Still the graphic designer ladies are spraying good mood. There is a cheerful atmosphere that everyone feels when entering the office. Karin Backer is glad about this: “We are just a good team, at home as well as on drupa.”

Oh, what a night – the manroland Stand party

The new manroland in habitual mood to celebrate: In the evening of June 4, Gerd Finkbeiner opened stand party in the Congress Center of Messe Düsseldorf. Future Olympic competitor Johannes Polgar thanked the manroland team for the sponsoring of his sailing crew and told a fascinating story of coping with mishaps, the stony road to success, and feelings of happiness. Soon after, the stand staff “sailed” across the dance floor to the honky-tonk music of the “8 to the bar” band, with mouth-organ accompaniment by Fritz Torneden, Managing Director of manroland in Hamburg. No soreness of feet from walking the manroland stand was to be noticed – the dancers proved in top form.
